Amazon Kindle in India?

I sincerely hope that this news is true.

Amazon Kindle is a great device and the way it uses Whispernet(EVDO) or Wifi to download books and back them up on S3, we should soon be saying good bye to paper-books and to ebooks which we have to manually backup.

Update: Just came across this interesting debate posted by Ajay Jain at TechGazing . I already read more ebooks than paper books. We work on the cutting edge software technology and in this industry the trend increasingly is that beta books are released as pdf version months before the paper book comes out. Also ebooks are relatively lesser priced and need no extra shipping charges. Citalopram

  1. ebook readers have been hindered from gaining wider acceptance due to many reasons. One of the main being the screens they use. For a specialized device meant to do only one thing, the screen resolution and size of ebook readers was nowhere near the quality of the LCDs found on even the ultra-lightweight laptops. That caused too much eye strain when trying to use the readers for any meaningful length of time. Also, reading a novel on the small screen is one thing, but trying to read a technical book where you want to see more information in one scan, the small screen size, IMO, didn’t cut it.

However this Kindle looks like it has a good screen, a new type of screen that resembles a book’s page more closely and the wifi support is great. I still wish they had put a bigger screen on it 😉 I am still going to try it out and see how good/bad it is.

  2. If a person is reading technology books or referring a Manual , ebooks rock as they can provide a lot of hand on tools that the traditional method doesn`t.

But What about serious reading which people do in non-serious time like reading before going to bed, Reading on vactaion etc .

I never felt a need of buying a ebook as it`s all available on internet, See esnips.com (I am not very sensitive to publishing industry too, :P)

Still would be interesting to watch the growth of Amazon Kindle in india, 🙂
